During this session we will discuss:

  • Background, definitions, and delineations, how to navigate AI from an academic perspective

  • AI/machine learning structures and functions: Code/Data, training, validation, guiding, restricting

  • Definition of terms: AI, LLM, ChatGPT; address composition fallacy

  • Present examples of language learning and text/image models

  • Show apps/search engines already incorporating these tools (MS Bing, Google Bard, Adobe Photoshop, Snapchat My AI)

  • Focus on ChatGPT/LLMs use in education and AI detectors

  • Discuss Manhattan College experiences and plans

  • Courses designated AI-aware and AI-integrated

  • Model syllabus language addressing AI–focus on transparency

  • Faculty Development plans to educate faculty

  • Suggestions for institutions/faculty–how to prepare, what NOT to do
