Success Beyond Transfer: Transfer Student Outcomes 2025

Community colleges and independent, non-profit colleges and universities have collaborated for decades to help students who first enroll at a community college to subsequently complete their bachelor’s degree at the independent college or university of their choosing.

Transfer students represent nearly 1 out of 5 of the undergraduate population on Michigan’s independent college campuses and earn 1 out of 3 of the degrees awarded each year.

Transfer students are 10% more likely to complete a degree on time (in four years!) at an independent college or university in Michigan compared to a public university. Read more in our 2025 report!
