1 out of every 3 bachelor’s degrees awarded at a Michigan independent college or university is earned by a transfer student
Transfer students may have attended a community college or another 4-year college or university in the past and have meticulously chosen their transfer school. Also, many transfer students have taken time away from the classroom to earn a wage and gain work experience.
Transfer students represent nearly 1 out of 5 of the undergraduate population on Michigan’s independent college campuses and earn 1 out of 3 of the degrees awarded each year.
Transfer students often complete degrees faster because they have already earned credits toward their program of study and thus have fewer courses to take at their transfer institution, meaning less cost to the student.
MICU is working closely with MCCA and MiLEAP to keep moving this important issue forward.
